Beef Wellington Bites

Beef Wellington Bites are a variation of the classic Beef Wellington dish, which is made with a whole beef tenderloin that is wrapped in puff pastry and baked. Beef Wellington Bites are smaller, bite-sized portions that are perfect for serving as an appetizer or as part of a buffet.

To make Beef Wellington Bites, small pieces of beef fillet are seared and then wrapped in puff pastry along with a flavorful mushroom duxelles. The pastry is then baked until it is golden brown and crispy, creating a delicious and elegant appetizer that is perfect for special occasions or dinner parties. The dish is usually served with the mushroom duxelles on the side.

Here's a recipe you can try at home:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound beef tenderloin fillet
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1 pound puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Season the beef fillet generously with salt and black pepper.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the beef fillet on all sides until browned. Remove from the pan and let cool.
  4. Brush the beef fillet with the Dijon mustard.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
  6. Cut the pastry into 2-inch squares.
  7. Place a spoonful of the mushroom duxelles in the center of each pastry square.
  8. Cut the beef fillet into 2-inch pieces and place one piece on top of each pastry square.

  9. Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg.
  10. Fold the pastry over the beef fillet to enclose it completely.
  11. Place the Beef Wellington Bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  12. Brush the tops of the pastry with more beaten egg.
  13. Bake the Beef Wellington Bites for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and cooked through.
  14. While the Beef Wellington Bites are baking, make the mushroom duxelles. In the same skillet used to sear the beef fillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and garlic and cook until the mushrooms are softened and most of the liquid has evaporated.
  15. Add the white wine to the pan and cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the wine has evaporated.
  16. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the chopped parsley.
  17. Serve the Beef Wellington Bites warm, with the mushroom duxelles on the side.

Enjoy your delicious Beef Wellington Bites
